Laser hair removal is an easy and affordable way to disable hair follicles and stop re-growth. This technology is the ultimate alternative to plucking, shaving, waxing and painful electrolysis, eliminating unwanted hair quickly, safely and long-term. The Medical Rejuvenation Institute's new FDA-approved Sciton YAG laser hair removal technology can be used on all skin types, including sensitive skin.
Because of its revolutionary cooling plate, the new Sciton Neodynium YAG 1064 laser is fast, effective, and virtually painless. The Sciton laser is able to remove even finer hairs, so even as hair gets finer and finer through treatments, it still continues to remove the hair.
Are you an ideal candidate? Sciton Laser Hair Removal is the safest hair removal laser for all skin types, no matter how fine the hair or dark the skin coloring.
How it works: Lasers work by emitting a specialized light that is passed through the skin and preferentially absorbed by its target, be it an unwanted blood vessel, birthmark, tattoo, or in this case, hair. The laser used in hair removal targets the melanin (colour) in the hair follicle, damaging the follicle and removing the hair.
Preparation & Treatment: All hair in the area to be treated should be shaved 1-3 days prior to treatment. Older laser technology (the Lightsheer XC Diode) required an anaesthetic cream to minimize discomfort. Our new Sciton YAG laser is virtually painless, so no creams are required. Treating small areas like the face, underarm, bikini area or lower abdomen takes just a few minutes. Larger areas like the arms, back or legs can take up to an hour.
Complications: Blistering (usually transient), Hyperpigmentation (also transient), hypopigmentation (permanent but rare, specially with YAG laser 1064), scarring, also rare.
Recovery: We choose to use the ClearScan pulsed YAG laser because the unique cooling plate protects the skin, causing only minimal discomfort. The treated area will be minimally red. You can resume all activities immediately afterwards. Results can be seen 2 to 3 weeks post-treatment. There might be redness for 4-6 hours after treatment. Hair appears to grow for several days then hair falls out by day 10-14. The next phase is hair regrowth usually thinner hair, by 6-8 weeks. The Laser affects hairs in active growth phase, which is ussually 20% of hairs present, and this is the time when the treatment is most effective. So typically treatments are spaced out according to growht phase. For best results treatments are spaced out 3-4 weeks for the face and 6-8 weeks for the rest of the body.
Results: Because hairs cycle through growth phases at different times, more than one session is required for satisfactory reduction. Depending on the area being treated, an average of 4-8 sessions, spaced 4-8 months apart, is recommended for long-term hair reduction. Some future touch-ups may be required.
Average Hair Series: while every patient is different, here is a general guideline.
Lip: 2-3 treatments. Face: 3-4. Bikini line: 3-4. Arms: 5-6. Under Arms: 3-4. Legs: 5-6. Back: 4-5.
